According to police, the goal of the Speed Week campaign and enforcement year round is to "reduce speed-related crashes and improve safe travel for drivers and passengers on New York’s roads.
Speeding by all vehicle types, as well as other traffic violations, will be heavily enforced throughout the week in addition to normal year-round enforcement."
During the detail on Thursday, June 6, troopers dished out a total of 74 tickets, including 70 for speeding, one for distracted driving and three others for various vehicle and traffic law violations.
The latest enforcement detail comes following several others in recent months. Earlier this year, 51 tickets were doled out during an I-684 detail; another 64 tickets in April; and nearly two dozen during a special detail in Westchester school zones.
